Tar And Chippings

Tar And Chippings

Are you sick of Blacktop? Come on, let's get Chippy!

Is your driveway a welcome mat to your world that is broken, discoloured, or just plain uninspired? Does it scream “success” and “style” when you want it to whisper “neglect”? At Passion Landscaping, we think your driveway is more than just a walkway; it’s the welcome greeting to your house and the first impression of your company. It’s time to make that crucial initial impression extraordinary rather than forgettable. Imagine the sheer character, the sparkle of real stone, and the wonderful crunch beneath your tires. This is a Passion Landscaping Tar & Chip reality, not a dream. Concrete’s dull function and the monotonous expanse of tarmac are forgotten. We invite you to discover the remarkable, durable, and exquisite features of Tar & Chip Driveways. Suppose you had a surface that combined the robustness of asphalt with the organic, tactile appeal of fine gravel. Country lane charm combines with the magnificent grandeur of a prominent estate. This is a declaration, not merely paving.

Is the driveway you now have more of a practical problem than a beautiful feature?

The Syndrome of “Sea of Sameness”: Your existing driveway is dull, uninteresting, and completely forgettable—it looks just like every other driveway on the street. The pavement known as the “Personality Bypass”: It’s simply there. No plot, no texture, no character. It doesn’t capture your sense of style or the special character of your home. The “Slick When Wet” Scare: Smooth surfaces can become hazardous slicks when there is a little rain or frost, which could worry family members, guests, or clients. The “Expensive Elegance” Mysteries: You want a unique, upscale appearance but object to the hefty cost of natural stone slabs or elaborate pavers. The Effect of “Heat Island”: In the summer, your driveway (and the surrounding area) will be uncomfortable due to the heat absorption and radiation of dark, thick asphalt. The “Too Modern/Too Cold” Concrete: When combined with more traditional or rustic buildings, standard concrete can appear sterile, industrial, or just out of place. The “Invisible in the Landscape” Problem: Your driveway simply cuts through your landscaping without making any visually pleasing connections.

    FAQS

FAQs About Tip and Chipping Driveways (Tar & Chip)

Tip and chipping involves spraying hot bitumen (tar) onto a prepared base and then laying decorative stone chippings on top. It’s rolled for a firm bond, creating a textured, durable, and visually appealing surface.

Not quite. While both use bitumen, tip and chip has a more rustic, natural finish thanks to the loose stone layer, whereas tarmac is smooth and uniform.

It’s cost-effective, visually attractive, low-maintenance, and offers excellent traction. Plus, it blends beautifully with rural and traditional homes.

With proper installation and occasional touch-ups, tip and chipping driveways can last 10 to 15 years or more.

Some loose stones are normal in the first few weeks, but once the surface settles and is properly compacted, the majority remain firmly in place.

Yes! We offer a range of natural stone options including golden gravel, granite, and flint – so your driveway complements your property’s style.

Tar and chip surfaces offer excellent grip in wet or icy conditions due to the textured finish, making them safer in winter.
